Grisham Stadium, officially known as Grisham Stadium, Maddox - Musselwhite Track at Historic Trojan Field, is a multi-purpose stadium in Carrollton, Georgia, United States. The stadium serves as the home venue for the athletic teams of Carrollton High School and hosts various functions for the Carrollton City School District.
History
The site originally opened on September 3, 1965, as Trojan Field, following the construction of a new Carrollton High School in 1963. The stadium was funded by the CHS Athletic Booster Club. The field was named Trojan Field on November 5, 1965.
In 1971, the track at the stadium was named the Hugh G. Maddox Track in honor of Hugh G. Maddox, a track and football coach who led the team to five consecutive track state titles during the 1950s and secured the Trojan football team's first state championship in 1956.
In 1974, the stadium was renamed in honor of Charles Louis "Charlie" Grisham, who served as head football coach at Carrollton High School from 1958 onward. Over nearly three decades, Grisham led the team to sixteen regional titles and five state champion titles. He is the longest-serving head football coach at Carrollton High School and has been inducted into the Georgia State Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 2021, the track was renamed the Maddox - Musselwhite Track, honoring Craig Musselwhite, the recently retired head track coach. During his career, Musselwhite contributed to five state championships as assistant coach and eight more as head coach.
Facilities and Renovations
Grisham Stadium has an artificial turf surface and a seating capacity estimated between 6,500 and 8,000 spectators. The stadium underwent extensive renovations in 2008, funded through a tax-approved plan. These renovations included a new artificial track and field, visitor's locker rooms, updated concessions, new home-side grandstands, a three-level press box, and a grand entrance with a brick memorial walkway. The project faced controversy when costs exceeded budget, leading to delays in other school construction projects.
Additional renovations were completed in 2021, when the "TrojanTron" scoreboard was replaced with a full LED-based system, and in 2023, the turf field and track were replaced.
Tenants
The primary tenant is the Carrollton Trojans (GHSA), who have used the stadium since 1965. The University of West Georgia Wolves (NCAA Division II) used the stadium for their football team from 1981 until 2008, when they moved to the university's own stadium in 2009. Georgia Storm FC of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) used Grisham Stadium as their home field for the 2021 season before relocating in 2022.
