Gretna is a village located in Sarpy County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs metropolitan area.

Gretna lies in the eastern portion of Nebraska, approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Omaha. Etymology/Origin
The name “Gretna” is derived from Gretna, a town in Scotland. The naming reflects a common practice of American settlers and railway companies in the 19th century assigning European place names to new settlements. The village was platted in 1886 when the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway extended its line through the area.
