Gretchen Wilson

Gretchen Wilson (born June 26, 1973) is an American country music singer, songwriter, and actress. She achieved mainstream success with her debut single “Redneck Woman,” which topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2004 and earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.

Early life and education
Wilson was born in Pocahontas, Illinois, and raised in a farming community. She graduated from Central High School in 1991 and later attended the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, where she earned a degree in business administration. Prior to her music career, Wilson worked as a bartender and performed in local bands.

Music career

  • 2004–2005: Breakthrough and “Here for the Party”
    Wilson signed with Epic Records and released her debut album Here for the Party in May 2004. The album was certified 4× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Its lead single, “Redneck Woman,” became a crossover hit, reaching number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100. Subsequent singles, including “Here for the Party” and “When I Think About Cheatin’,” also charted in the top ten of the country charts.

  • 2006–2009: Continued releases
    Her second album, All Jacked Up (2005), produced the top‑ten single “All Jacked Up.” Wilson released a compilation, One of the Girls (2006), and a third studio album, I’ll Be Home for Christmas (2006). In 2009, she issued the album I Got Your Country Right Here, which featured the single “Work Hard, Play Harder.”

  • 2010–present
    Wilson founded her own label, Redneck Nation Records, releasing Right on Time (2013) and Still Here for the Party (2016). She has continued to tour extensively, performing at country music festivals and venues throughout the United States and internationally. Wilson has also collaborated with other artists, contributing vocals to tracks by artists such as Toby Keith and Hank Williams Jr.

Acting and other ventures
Wilson made appearances in television series and films, including a recurring role on the sitcom The Big Bang Theory (2010) and a cameo in the movie Country Strong (2010). She has launched a line of clothing and lifestyle products under the “Redneck Nation” brand.
