Grande Prairie-Wapiti

Grande Prairie-Wapiti is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. It is one of 87 ridings mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first-past-the-post voting system.

The district was established in the 1993 boundary redistribution, primarily formed from portions of the former Grande Prairie and Smoky River electoral districts. It is located in the northwestern part of the province and encompasses the southern and western portions of the city of Grande Prairie, along with a significant rural area within the County of Grande Prairie No. 1. Notable communities within its boundaries include Wembley, Bezanson, and Grovedale.

Economically, the region represented by Grande Prairie-Wapiti is characterized by its reliance on natural resources, specifically the oil and gas industry, forestry, and agriculture. These industries form the backbone of the local economy and often influence the political discourse within the riding.

Politically, the district has been a stronghold for conservative parties since its inception. It was represented by the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta from 1993 until the party's merger into the United Conservative Party (UCP) in 2017. Representatives of the UCP have continued to hold the seat in subsequent provincial elections. The boundaries of the district are periodically reviewed by the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission to ensure equitable representation based on population shifts.
