Granadero Baigorria is an urban municipality (partido) in the Rosario Department of the province of Santa Fe, Argentina. It forms part of the Greater Rosario metropolitan area and lies on the western bank of the Paraná River, approximately 12 km west of the city of Rosario.
Etymology
The name combines the military rank “granadero” with the surname “Baigorria,” commemorating a soldier of that rank who participated in Argentina’s early 19th‑century independence conflicts.
History
The settlement originated in the late 19th century as a rural outpost serving agricultural lands surrounding Rosario. Formal municipal organization began in the mid‑20th century, coinciding with rapid suburban expansion of the metropolitan area. In 1975 the locality attained official status as a city (municipio).
Geography
Granadero Baigorria occupies an area of roughly 44 km². The terrain is part of the Pampas, characterized by flat plains and fertile soils suitable for agriculture and livestock. Its proximity to the Paraná River influences local climate, providing a temperate humid environment with an average annual precipitation of about 1 000 mm.

According to the 2020 provisional estimate by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), Granadero Baigorria had a population of approximately 56 000 inhabitants, representing a moderate increase from the 2010 census (roughly 48 000). The demographic profile is predominantly of European descent, with a growing proportion of migrants from other Argentine provinces.

The local economy is diversified between service‑oriented activities, light manufacturing, and agro‑industrial operations. Commercial centers serve the residential population, while several industrial parks host firms engaged in metalworking, food processing, and logistics. The municipality benefits from its strategic location near major transportation corridors, facilitating trade with Rosario and the broader interior of the country.
Transportation
Granadero Baigorria is intersected by National Route 9 and the Rosario–Córdoba Highway, providing road links to Rosario, Córdoba, and other regional hubs. The nearest railway station lies in Rosario, offering passenger and freight services on the General Mitre network.
