Grace Coddington (born 23 February 1941) is an English former fashion model and influential fashion editor, most prominently recognized for her tenure as Creative Director of American Vogue.
Overview
Coddington began her career in the 1960s as a runway model, appearing for designers such as Mary Quant and Yves Saint Laurent. In 1981 she joined Vogue as a fashion editor, contributing articles, styling shoots, and editorial content. In 2000, following the appointment of Anna Wintour as Editor‑in‑Chief, Coddington was promoted to Creative Director, a role in which she oversaw the visual direction, concept development, and execution of fashion editorials and covers. Under her guidance, Vogue became noted for elaborate, narrative-driven spreads that blended theatrical staging with high fashion. Coddington retired from Vogue in 2016 but continues to work on independent fashion projects, collaborations, and occasional consulting work. She has also authored a memoir, Grace: A Memoir (2014).
