Govinda Subba

Govinda Subba (also known as Govinda Subba Limbu; Nepali: गोविन्द सुब्बा) is a Nepali academic and politician who served as the first Governor of Province No. 1 (now Koshi Province) of Nepal. He was born on 18 January 1958 in Chhatthar Jorpati Rural Municipality-3, Dhankuta, in what is now Koshi Province, Nepal.

Education and Academic Career: Subba completed his early schooling at Damodar National Primary School and his proficiency certificate level from Dhankuta Campus. He earned an MA in English from Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, and later completed a PhD in India. He served as a professor at the Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies (CNAS) at Tribhuvan University.

Political Career: Subba was initially involved in the Nepali Communist Movement with the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) in Dhankuta before later joining the Nepali Congress party. On 17 January 2018, the Government of Nepal appointed him as the first Governor (Chief of State) of Province No. 1. He was sworn into office on 19 January 2018 and served until 3 November 2019. He was succeeded by Somnath Adhikari.

Personal Details: Subba is a member of the Nepali Congress party. During his tenure, the Chief Minister of the province was Sher Dhan Rai, and the President of Nepal was Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
