Gobiops is an extinct genus of goniopholidid crocodylomorphs, an ancient group of crocodile-like reptiles. Its fossils have been discovered primarily in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia, specifically from the Nemegt Formation, which dates back to the Late Cretaceous period.
Gobiops was a freshwater or brackish water predator, characterized by its relatively short snout and robust skull, suggesting a diet that may have included fish and other small vertebrates. It is one of several goniopholidid genera known from the Late Cretaceous of Asia, contributing to the understanding of crocodilian evolution and paleobiogeography during that time. The name Gobiops refers to the Gobi Desert where its remains were found.
