Gliese 69 (also designated HD 10436, GJ 69, LHS 1291, and BD+63° 229) is a star located in the constellation of Cassiopeia. It has an apparent magnitude of 8.40, making it too faint to be seen with the naked eye. Parallax measurements by the Gaia spacecraft place it at a distance of approximately 44.09 light-years (13.6 parsecs) from Earth.
Stellar Characteristics
Gliese 69 is a K-type main-sequence star (spectral type K5 Vbe) that is smaller and less massive than the Sun. It has an effective temperature of approximately 4,312 K, which is cooler than the Sun's surface temperature. The star is estimated to be around 6.9 billion years old, making it significantly older than the Sun (which is about 4.6 billion years old). Its B−V color index is +1.22, and its U−B color index is +1.12.
Planetary System
In 2019, one candidate exoplanet was detected around Gliese 69 using the radial velocity method. Designated Gliese 69 b (unconfirmed), the candidate has a minimum mass of approximately 8.3 Earth masses, placing it in the super-Earth or mini-Neptune category. It orbits the star at a semimajor axis of about 0.043 AU (roughly 4.3% of the Earth-Sun distance) with an orbital period of approximately 3.84 days. Its orbital eccentricity is estimated at 0.03, indicating a nearly circular orbit.
