Gleason Fournier (born September 8, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who currently plays for the Cardiff Devils of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). He was selected 90th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Early Life and Junior Career
Fournier was born in Rimouski, Quebec, Canada. He played junior hockey with the Rimouski Océanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) from 2007 to 2011. Over four seasons with the Océanic, he recorded 31 goals and 102 assists for 133 points in 237 regular-season games.
Professional Career
Fournier signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings on November 29, 2010. He began his professional career in the 2011–12 season, splitting time between the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL and the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League (AHL). He won the Calder Cup with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2013.
After his entry-level contract concluded, Fournier was released by the Red Wings and signed with the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL) in July 2014. He was later traded to the Florida Everblades in January 2015 and then to the Alaska Aces in September 2015.
In 2015–16, Fournier joined the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL, where he became a standout player. He was named EIHL Defenceman of the Year in 2019 and was selected to the EIHL First All-Star Team in 2019 and 2020. He won EIHL championships with Cardiff in 2017 and 2018.
Fournier later played in the ICE Hockey League (ICEHL) for HC Bolzano (2020–21) and Fehérvár AV19 (2021–2024) before returning to the Cardiff Devils.
International Play
Fournier represented Canada Quebec at the 2008 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, recording 2 goals and 3 assists in 5 games.
