Girija Surendran (born 15 May 1952) is an Indian politician and former member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. She is affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and serves as a central committee member of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) and a Kerala state committee member from the Palakkad district committee of the CPI(M).
Early Life and Education: Girija Surendran was born on 15 May 1952 to K. Krishnan and C. R. Savitri. She is a college graduate and resides in Palakkad, Kerala. She is married to S. Surendran and has two daughters.
Political Career: In the 1987 Kerala Legislative Assembly election, she contested as the CPI(M) candidate from the Palakkad constituency but was defeated by independent candidate C. M. Sundaram, securing 37.41% of the vote against Sundaram's 44.35%. She did not receive a nomination in the 1991 election.
In the 1996 Kerala Legislative Assembly election, she was nominated from the Sreekrishnapuram constituency in Palakkad district and won, defeating two-term incumbent P. Balan of the Indian National Congress with 48.78% of the vote against Balan's 45.23%. She was re-elected in the 2001 election, defeating former Member of Parliament V. S. Vijayaraghavan of the Indian National Congress by a margin of just 21 votes (47.26% to 47.25%). She served as a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 2006.
In 2018, she was elected to the state committee of the CPI(M) in Kerala.
