Born in Cesenatico, Emilia‑Romagna, Ghezzi began his senior career with local side Cesena before moving to Internazionale (Inter) in 1950. At Inter he made 140 league appearances and won two Serie A titles (1952–53, 1953–54). In 1958 he transferred to AC Milan, where he added three more Serie A championships (1958–59, 1961–62, 1962–63) and was part of the squad that won the 1962–63 European Cup. Over seven seasons with Milan he recorded 168 league caps.

Internationally, Ghezzi earned nine caps for the Italy national team between 1954 and 1963. He was selected for the Italian squads at the 1954 FIFA World Cup and the 1962 World Cup, although he did not feature in tournament matches.

After retiring from playing in 1965, Ghezzi worked as a goalkeeping coach and held various administrative roles within Italian football. He died at the age of 60 in his hometown of Cesenatico.

Etymology/Origin
The given name “Giorgio” is the Italian form of “George,” derived from the Greek Γεώργιος (Geōrgios), meaning “farmer” or “earth‑worker.” The surname “Ghezzi” is of Italian origin, common in the Lombardy and Emilia‑Romagna regions; it is a patronymic or diminutive form possibly linked to the medieval personal name “Ghezzo,” a diminutive of “Gherardo” (Gerard).
