Gillis Wilson

Gillis Wilson (born 1965) is an American former professional basketball player. He primarily played as a power forward and center during his career. Wilson is best known for his collegiate career at Oklahoma City University and his brief tenure in professional leagues, including being drafted by the Washington Bullets in the 1987 NBA draft.

Early Life and College Career Gillis Wilson was born in 1965. He attended Oklahoma City University, where he played college basketball for the Oklahoma City Stars (now the Eagles) from 1983 to 1987. During his time with the Stars, Wilson established himself as a dominant big man, known for his rebounding and scoring ability. He was a key player in the program's success, earning multiple accolades, including being named an NAIA All-American. He helped lead the Stars to the NAIA national championship tournament.

Professional Career Following a standout college career, Gillis Wilson was selected by the Washington Bullets (now the Washington Wizards) as the 71st overall pick in the 4th round of the 1987 NBA draft. Although he was drafted into the NBA, Wilson's professional playing career largely took place in other leagues. He played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), which was then the primary developmental league for the NBA, and also had stints playing internationally. His career in these leagues further showcased his skills as a strong rebounder and interior scorer.

Legacy Wilson remains a notable figure in Oklahoma City University's basketball history, recognized as one of their accomplished alumni who went on to professional basketball.
