Gillian Carleton

Gillian Carleton (born May 3, 1989) is a Canadian former track cyclist who specialized in endurance events. She is best known for her bronze medal win at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the women's team pursuit event.

Career

Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Carleton began her cycling career focusing on track disciplines. She quickly rose through the ranks in Canadian cycling, becoming a prominent member of the national team.

Olympic Success

Carleton's most significant achievement came at the 2012 London Summer Olympics. As a key member of the Canadian women's team pursuit squad, she, alongside Tara Whitten and Jasmin Glaesser, secured a bronze medal. This marked a historic moment for Canadian track cycling.

International Competitions

Prior to and following her Olympic success, Carleton achieved numerous podium finishes at various international events. At the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, she won a gold medal in the team pursuit. She also competed in several UCI Track Cycling World Cup events, earning medals in team pursuit, including a silver in Cali during the 2012-2013 season and a bronze in Astana in the 2011-2012 season.

Carleton retired from competitive cycling after the 2013 season to focus on her academic pursuits and other professional interests.
