Gill Rosenberg

Gill Rosenberg (born 1983) is an Israeli‑Canadian activist and journalist known for her involvement in the 2014 Gaza conflict. A former medical student and Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) medic, Rosenberg became prominent after being detained by Israeli authorities in November 2014 while allegedly attempting to enter the Gaza Strip via a tunnel that leads to a Hamas‑run training camp.

Early life and education
Rosenberg was born in 1983 in Canada and later moved to Israel, where she served as a medic in the IDF. After completing her military service, she pursued medical studies.

2014 Gaza incident
In November 2014, Israeli security forces intercepted Rosenberg while she was being smuggled into Gaza through a tunnel near the Rafah crossing. Israeli officials alleged that she intended to receive training from Hamas and to serve the organization in an "active capacity." She was arrested and transferred to Israeli custody for criminal prosecution.

Legal proceedings
Rosenberg was charged with attempting to provide material support to an internationally recognized terrorist organization. In 2016, an Israeli court convicted her of attempting to provide support to Hamas and sentenced her to 30 months in prison, a term she began serving in the early part of that year. She completed her sentence and was released in 2017.

Public and media activity
Following her release, Rosenberg has participated in media interviews and written articles on the Israeli‑Palestinian conflict, often emphasizing a perspective critical of Israeli policy toward Gaza. She has also been involved in advocacy work related to freedom of movement and the rights of activists.

Personal life
Rosenberg holds dual Canadian and Israeli citizenship. Details regarding her family and personal relationships are not widely publicized.
