Gianluca Atzori (born 6 March 1971) is an Italian football manager and former professional player who currently serves as head coach of Serie D club Scafatese.
Early life and playing career
Atzori was born in Collepardo, Italy. He began his senior playing career as a defender with A.S. Lodigiani in 1988, making 21 appearances over two seasons. After a brief stint at Torino without first‑team caps, he played for Ternana (1991–1993, 50 caps), Perugia (1993–1996, 63 caps, 1 goal), Reggina (1996–1997, 24 caps), Ravenna (1997–2001, 110 caps, 7 goals), Empoli (2001–2003, 35 caps, 3 goals) and Palermo (2003–2004, 17 caps). Throughout his playing career he competed primarily in Serie B and lower divisions.
Managerial career
Following retirement, Atzori entered coaching as an assistant manager at Parma (2004), Lecce (2005–2006) and Catania (2007–2008). He obtained his first head‑coach position with Ravenna (2008–2009) before returning to Catania as a senior staff member in 2010–2011. Subsequent managerial appointments included multiple spells at Reggina (2011, 2013 and 2013–2014), Siena (2015), Pistoiese (2017), Pro Vercelli (2017–2018), Imolese (2019–2020) and Floriana in Malta (2021–2023). In 2024 he was appointed head coach of Scafatese, competing in the Italian Serie D.
