Geography
Ghuram is a town and a municipal council in Patiala district in the Indian state of Punjab. It is situated approximately 30 km southeast of Patiala city and lies on the National Highway 71 (NH 71) that connects Patiala with Sangrur. The town is positioned at an elevation of about 247 metres (811 ft) above sea level.
Administrative Status
Ghuram functions as a Nagar Panchayat (municipal council) within the Patiala district’s administrative framework. It falls under the Patiala Lok Sabha constituency and the Patiala Assembly constituency for parliamentary and state legislative representation, respectively.
Population and Demographics
According to the 2011 Census of India, Ghuram had a total population of roughly 12,000 residents. The gender distribution was approximately 6,300 males and 5,700 females, yielding a sex ratio of about 905 females per 1,000 males. The literacy rate stood at around 71 %, with male literacy higher than female literacy. Punjabi is the official language, and the majority of the populace follows Sikhism, with Hindu and other religious minorities also present.

The town’s economy is primarily agrarian, with surrounding areas cultivating wheat, rice, and mustard. Small-scale trade and retail activities serve the local population, and a few micro‑enterprises operate in sectors such as textiles and agro‑processing.

Ghuram is noted for the historic Ghuram Fort, attributed to the Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s era, though the fort’s condition is now partially dilapidated. The town also contains the Gurdwara of Gurdas Singh, a site of local religious significance. Annual fairs (melas) are held during regional festivals, attracting participants from nearby villages.
