Ghost Town was an American electronic rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2012. The band was known for its distinctive blend of electronic music, alternative rock, EDM, and pop punk, often characterized by its energetic live performances, unique visual aesthetic, and catchy synth-driven melodies.
History
Ghost Town was founded by vocalist Kevin "KX" Ghost and instrumentalist Alix "Da Gawd" Kooch, who met through a mutual friend. They soon added bassist and synthesizer player Evan "EvenGhost" Eisenberg to the lineup. The band quickly gained a significant following through social media platforms like YouTube and Tumblr, where they released original music and visually striking art, building a strong grassroots fanbase.
In 2013, Ghost Town released their independent debut album, Party in the Graveyard, which helped solidify their sound and fan engagement. Later that year, they signed with major label Fueled by Ramen, known for signing prominent alternative and rock acts. Under Fueled by Ramen, they released their second album, The Afterparty, in 2014, which further propelled their career and saw them tour extensively.
The band continued to evolve its sound with the release of Evolution in 2015, which incorporated more mainstream pop elements while retaining their electronic rock core. Around this time, drummer Manny "Manny the Drummer" Sanchez joined the band, completing the lineup as a four-piece. In 2016, Evan Eisenberg departed from the band.
Ghost Town released their fourth studio album, PROPHECY, in 2017, showcasing a continued refinement of their electronic-infused rock. After fulfilling their contract with Fueled by Ramen, they returned to being an independent act.
In 2019, the band released a self-titled album, Ghost Town, which would ultimately be their final record. Later that year, Ghost Town announced an indefinite hiatus, effectively disbanding, with members pursuing individual projects.
Musical Style and Image
Ghost Town's music was characterized by a fusion of genres, prominently featuring electronic beats, synthesizers, heavy guitar riffs, and pop-influenced vocal melodies. Their sound often drew comparisons to bands blending electronica with rock, such as Mindless Self Indulgence. Lyrically, their songs often explored themes of individuality, rebellion, and partying, often delivered with a sense of playful darkness.
Visually, Ghost Town was known for its striking aesthetic, which included painted faces, stylized hair, and unique fashion choices. This strong visual identity was a key part of their appeal and contributed significantly to their distinct brand and fan connection.
