German Open (badminton)

The German Open is an international badminton tournament held annually in Germany. Established in 1955, the event is organized by the German Badminton Association (Deutscher Badminton-Verband e.V.) and is sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). It currently serves as a Super 300 level event within the BWF World Tour.

The tournament features competition across five standard disciplines: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. Since 1999, the event has been primarily hosted in the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr, with the Westenergie Sporthalle (formerly known as the RWE-Sporthalle) serving as the long-term venue.

Historically, the German Open has undergone several classification changes in accordance with the evolving structures of international badminton. From 2007 to 2017, it was designated as a Grand Prix Gold tournament. Following the restructuring of the BWF circuit in 2018, it was integrated into the BWF World Tour. The tournament was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic but resumed its position on the international calendar in 2022.

The event attracts high-ranking international competitors and remains one of the prominent fixtures on the European badminton circuit. Successful participants receive world ranking points and a designated prize fund, consistent with the requirements of its Super 300 status.
