Gerard Martín

Gerard Martín Langreo (born 26 February 2002) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a defender for La Liga club FC Barcelona. Primarily a left-back, he is also capable of playing as a centre-back.

Early Life and Career

Born in Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona, Catalonia, Martín moved with his family to Sant Andreu de la Barca at age five. He began his youth career at EF Performance and Sant Gabriel before joining UE Cornellà at the U19 level. He reached Cornellà's senior team in the 2021–22 season, playing in the Segunda División B and Primera Federación.

FC Barcelona

On 19 July 2023, Martín signed a two-year contract with Barça Atlètic (Barcelona's reserve team). He made his first-team debut on 17 August 2024, coming on as a 63rd-minute substitute for Alejandro Balde in a 2–1 away win against Valencia in La Liga. In January 2025, he renewed his contract until 2028.

Martín scored his first professional goal on 2 March 2025, from a cross by Dani Olmo in a 4–0 victory over Real Sociedad. During the 2024–25 season, he made 28 league appearances (42 in all competitions) as Barcelona won La Liga and the Copa del Rey. In the 2025–26 season, under manager Hansi Flick, Martín was increasingly deployed as a left-sided centre-back, forming a partnership with Pau Cubarsí.

International Career

Martín earned his first cap for the Spain under-21 side on 21 March 2025 in a 2–2 friendly draw against the Czech Republic. He was selected for the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship but withdrew after the first match due to a hand injury.

Style of Play

Martín is described as a versatile and reliable defender who excels in marking and aerial duels. Standing at 1.86 m (6 ft 1 in), he is capable of playing both as a left-back and as a centre-back. His strengths include one-on-one defending and tactical adaptability.
