Geetha is an Indian actress who has worked predominantly in South Indian cinema, appearing in films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Tulu languages. She is known for a career spanning over four decades, with more than 200 film appearances.
Early Life and Debut
Geetha was born on 14 July 1962 in Tamil Nadu, India. She made her film debut in 1978 with the Tamil film Bairavi, in which she played the title character and portrayed the younger sister of actor Rajinikanth. She was in the seventh grade at the time of her casting and later discontinued her studies to focus on her acting career.
Career
Geetha's performance as Indira in the 1986 Malayalam film Panchagni, based on the life story of Naxalite revolutionary Ajitha, received critical acclaim and was described by The Hindu as "one of Malayalam cinema's landmark heroines." That same year, she appeared in several other Malayalam films, including Sukhamo Devi, Kshamichu Ennoru Vakku, Aavanazhi, and Geetham, which established her as a prominent actress in Malayalam cinema.
In Kannada cinema, Geetha worked with notable actors including Rajkumar, Ananth Nag, Vishnuvardhan, and Ambareesh. She formed a particularly successful on-screen pairing with Ambareesh, appearing with him in over fifteen films. Her notable Kannada films include Dhruva Thare, Devatha Manushya, Anuraga Aralithu, Shruthi Seridaaga, and Aakasmika.
She also appeared in notable Tamil films such as Thalapathi (1991), Kuruthipunal (1995), and Jeans (1998). In Telugu cinema, her credits include Okkadu (2003), Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana (2005), and Venky Mama (2019).
After her marriage in 1997, Geetha took a break from acting between 1998 and 2002. She returned to the screen in 2003, primarily taking on supporting roles such as mothers of lead characters. She has also worked in television serials in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu.

In 1997, Geetha married Vasan Thatham, an American CPA and Indian chartered accountant. The couple lived in New Jersey, United States, and have one son, born in 1999. She later returned to India and settled in Chennai.
