Gary Tibbs (born 16 February 1958) is an English musician and actor best known as a bass guitarist. He first gained prominence as a member of the new‑wave band Adam and the Ants, joining after the group’s initial lineup changed in 1980. Tibbs played on the band’s commercially successful album Prince Charming (1981) and appeared in the associated music videos and television performances.
Following his tenure with Adam and the Ants, Tibbs became a founding member of the rock group The Vibrators, contributing to several releases in the early 1980s. He later formed the short‑lived band The 101, which released the album Here's One (1991). Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Tibbey worked as a session musician, recording and touring with artists such as Roxy Music, The Monkees (on their reunion tours), and Johnny Hates Jazz.
In addition to his music career, Tibbs has performed as an actor. He appeared in the 1990s British television series The Comic Strip Presents… and had a role in the 1996 film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish production). He also contributed voice work to the 2001 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Tibbs continues to be active in the music industry, frequently appearing at retro‑music festivals and participating in reunion tours of his earlier bands. He is recognized for his distinctive bass playing style, which blends melodic lines with rhythmic drive characteristic of the post‑punk and new‑wave eras.
