Gary Halpin (6 March 1966 – 2021) was an Irish rugby union player who played as a prop forward. He earned international caps for the Ireland national team during the early 1990s and represented two of the province’s senior teams, Leinster and Munster, in domestic competition.
Early life and education
Halpin was born in Dublin, Ireland. He attended St Mary’s College, Dublin, before enrolling at University College Dublin, where he played club rugby. He subsequently received a scholarship to study at the University of Oxford and represented Oxford University RFC in the annual Varsity Match against Cambridge.
Rugby career
At the club level, Halpin played for Bective Rangers, a Dublin‑based senior club. His performances at provincial level for Leinster and later Munster led to his selection for the Ireland senior squad. Between 1990 and 1994, he earned a total of five caps for Ireland, participating in the Five Nations Championship and other international fixtures.
