Gabriel Swann Macht (born January 22 1972) is an American actor. He is best known for portraying Harvey Specter in the USA Network legal drama series Suits (2011–2019).
Early life and education
Macht was born in New York City, the son of museum curator and archivist Suzanne Victoria Pulier and actor Stephen Macht. He has three siblings and was raised in a Jewish family. At age five, his family moved to California, where he attended Beverly Hills High School. He later enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Fine Arts, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. While at Carnegie Mellon, he joined the Delta Upsilon fraternity.
Acting career
Macht’s first credited screen role came at age eight in the 1980 film Why Would I Lie?, for which he was nominated for a Young Artist Award. He subsequently appeared in a variety of film and television projects, including A Love Song for Bobby Long, The Good Shepherd, Because I Said So, The Recruit, and the 2008 adaptation of The Spirit.
In July 2010, Macht was cast as Harvey Specter, a charismatic corporate lawyer, in the legal drama Suits. The series ran for nine seasons and 134 episodes, with Macht appearing in every episode and receiving co‑producer credit from the third season onward. He also reprised his role in the spin‑off Suits LA (2025).
Personal life
In 2004, Macht married Australian‑born actress Jacinda Barrett. The couple has two children, born in 2007 and 2014. In 2025, Macht disclosed that he and his family had relocated outside the United States, though the destination was not specified.
