Güvercin Islet (Turkish: Güvercin Adası, meaning "Pigeon Islet") is a small Mediterranean islet of Turkey. It is located within the Silifke district (ilçe) of Mersin Province, approximately 200 metres (660 ft) off the mainland coast at coordinates 36°14′38″N 33°48′38″E.
Geography
The islet is quite small, covering an area of only 3,000 square metres (32,000 sq ft). It lies in the Mediterranean Sea near the southern coast of Turkey.
Archaeological Features
The islet contains ruins dating to the late Roman Empire period, located on the north-eastern side of the island. The ruins are believed to have belonged to a mansion, constructed from rectangular stone blocks. Remains found on the islet include tombs, ceramics, and a portion of a mosaic floor. These findings were documented through a surface survey conducted by Günder Varinlioğlu of the Turkish Ministry of Culture.
