Fun Radio (France)

Fun Radio is a French network of FM radio stations that primarily broadcasts contemporary rhythmic and electronic music genres, including electropop, dance, Eurodance, house, and R&B. The station operates nationally on approximately 250 frequencies across France and is also available via digital audio broadcasting (DAB+) and satellite.

History

Fun Radio was launched on 2 October 1985 under the name “FUN” by Éric Péchadre, Pierre Lattès, and Jean‑Baptiste Blanchemain. The founders consolidated six local NRJ franchise stations—located in Nancy, Grenoble, Montpellier, Bordeaux, Carcassonne, and Toulouse—as well as a Chic FM station in Nice. Initially positioned as a competitor to NRJ, the network rebranded as Fun Radio and expanded its coverage throughout France during the late 1980s.

Ownership

The network is owned by Groupe M6, which is part of the RTL Group media conglomerate. Fun Radio’s sister stations within the RTL Group are RTL and RTL2. All three stations share headquarters in Neuilly‑sur‑Seine, a suburb of Paris.

Programming

The station’s format focuses on rhythmic and dance-oriented music, featuring:

  • Contemporary R&B
  • Rhythm and blues (R&B)
  • Dance music
  • Electro music
  • House music

Programs are presented in French and include a mix of live DJ shows, chart rundowns, and syndicated content. The station also produces podcasts and hosts occasional special events.

Fun Radio broadcasts on FM frequencies such as 101.9 MHz (Paris), 93.3 MHz (Lyon), and 99.7 MHz (Marseille), among many others throughout the country. It is also accessible via DAB+, satellite, and online streaming through its official website (www.funradio.fr).
