Frank Engel (born May 10, 1975) is a Luxembourgish politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2009 to 2019. Formerly a member of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), he currently serves as a leading figure in the political party Fokus.
Engel was born in Luxembourg City and pursued legal studies at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the University of Metz. His professional political career began in the European Parliament as an assistant to Jacques Santer, the former President of the European Commission. From 2001 to 2009, Engel held the position of Secretary General of the CSV parliamentary group in the Luxembourgish Chamber of Deputies.
In 2009, Engel was elected to the European Parliament, and he was re-elected for a second term in 2014. As an MEP, he was a member of the European People's Party (EPP) group. His committee assignments included the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, and the Committee on Budgets. Throughout his tenure, he was known for his advocacy of European federalism and published several works on the future of European integration.
In January 2019, Engel was elected President of the CSV. He resigned from this position in March 2021 following internal party disputes and allegations involving his contractual arrangements with a non-profit organization associated with the party, the CSV-Frëndeskrees. In 2022, the Luxembourg district court acquitted Engel of all charges related to these allegations.
Following his departure from the CSV, Engel co-founded the political party Fokus in early 2022. The party characterizes itself as a pragmatic, centrist movement. Engel has since represented Fokus as a candidate in both national and European elections.
