Franco Bertinetti (July 17, 1923 – November 5, 1995) was an Italian fencer who specialized in the épée discipline. Born in Vercelli, Italy, he is recognized as one of the most successful épée fencers of his era, particularly in team events.
Bertinetti achieved significant international success throughout his career. He won two Olympic gold medals as part of the Italian épée team: the first at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland, and the second at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia.
In addition to his Olympic achievements, Bertinetti was a dominant force at the World Fencing Championships. He secured four gold medals with the Italian épée team (1950, 1953, 1955, 1957). He also earned a silver medal in the individual épée event at the 1953 World Championships in Brussels, as well as a silver in the team épée in 1951 and a bronze in the team épée in 1954.
His career spanned a golden age for Italian fencing, and he was a key member of the formidable Italian épée teams that consistently excelled on the world stage. Bertinetti passed away in his hometown of Vercelli at the age of 72.
