Francis Egan (born June 1961) is an Irish-born business executive in the oil and gas industry, best known as the chief executive officer of Cuadrilla Resources, a British company specializing in onshore shale gas exploration and production via hydraulic fracturing (fracking).
Career
Egan entered the natural resources industry in the 1980s with Marathon Oil, where he worked for approximately eight years. He subsequently worked offshore as a production engineer in the North Sea. He later joined BHP (BHP Billiton Petroleum), where he spent around 20 years in various senior management roles across multiple countries, including Algeria, Pakistan, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Prior to joining Cuadrilla, he served as President of Production for BHP Billiton Petroleum in Houston, Texas.
Cuadrilla Resources
In July 2012, Egan was appointed chief executive of Cuadrilla Resources, a British shale gas exploration company founded in 2007. Under his leadership, Cuadrilla has been at the forefront of efforts to develop shale gas in the United Kingdom using high-volume hydraulic fracturing. The company has been described as "the pioneer of fracking in the UK." Egan has publicly advocated for shale gas development, describing it as a "40 to 50-year play" for the UK and stating that production could begin within months of receiving regulatory approval.
