The Four Mile uranium mine is an in-situ recovery (ISR) operation located in the Frome Basin of South Australia, approximately 550 kilometers north of Adelaide. Situated near the pre-existing Beverley uranium mine, the deposit was discovered in 2005 and is recognized as a high-grade sandstone-hosted uranium deposit.
The mine is owned and operated by Quasar Resources Pty Ltd, an affiliate of Heathgate Resources. Commercial production at the site commenced in April 2014. The extraction process utilizes ISR technology, which involves pumping a leaching solution into the underground ore body to dissolve the uranium and then pumping the resulting solution to the surface for processing. This method is preferred for the site’s specific geological conditions, as it avoids the need for large-scale open-cut or underground excavation.
Captured uranium from Four Mile is transported to the nearby Beverley North and Beverley facilities for processing and drying. The mine consists of two main geologically distinct areas known as Four Mile West and Four Mile East. Since its opening, the facility has contributed a significant portion of Australia's total uranium exports, consistently ranking among the country's most productive uranium mining operations.
