Fort Velasco was a small military installation located at the mouth of the Brazos River in what is now the city of Freeport, Texas, United States. The fort was established in 1832 by the Mexican government to protect the strategic port of Velasco. Following Texas' declaration of independence in 1836, the fort came under the control of the Republic of Texas and served as a defensive outpost for the new nation.
The post consisted primarily of a wooden blockhouse and accompanying earthworks. Its primary functions were to guard the anchorage, enforce customs duties, and provide a military presence in the region. After the United States annexation of Texas in 1845, the fort's importance diminished, and it was eventually abandoned. The site later became part of the expanding port facilities of Freeport.
No surviving structures remain; the location is now occupied by modern industrial and commercial developments along the Gulf Coast.
