Fort Madison was an Amtrak train station in Fort Madison, Iowa, United States. The former Amtrak station was built in 1968 by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (commonly referred to as the "Santa Fe"). It was located at the east end of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF, successor to the Santa Fe) freight yard, approximately a half-hour walk from downtown. It replaced a downtown Santa Fe complex that included a 1910 depot, a Railway Express Agency (REA) building, and a freight office.
The station had one side platform and one island platform serving two tracks. Its Amtrak station code was FMD. In fiscal year 2017, the station served 6,661 passengers.
The station was served by Amtrak's Southwest Chief (between Chicago and Los Angeles) and, historically, by the Lone Star (between Chicago and Dallas or Houston). Preceding stations on the Southwest Chief were La Plata, Missouri (westbound) and Galesburg, Illinois (eastbound). On the Santa Fe main line, the preceding station was Gibbs, Iowa (westbound) and the terminus was Fort Madison (eastbound).
On December 15, 2021, Amtrak moved its operations back to the historic Santa Fe Depot (the 1910 station) located directly in downtown Fort Madison, after a multi-year restoration project that raised the old depot onto a new concrete foundation to protect it from flooding. The 1968 station was then closed.
