Fordland, Missouri is a city located in Webster County, Missouri, United States. It is situated within the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The community of Fordland was platted in 1882. It was originally named "Ford" in honor of the Ford family, early settlers who owned the land upon which the townsite was established. The town developed around the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway (often referred to as the Frisco Line), which played a significant role in its early growth. Fordland was officially incorporated as a city in 1904.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the City of Fordland has a total area of approximately 0.99 square miles (2.56 km²), all of which is land. The city is located in the southwestern portion of Missouri, approximately 25 miles (40 km) east of the city of Springfield. It lies along U.S. Route 60, a major east-west highway. The surrounding landscape is characterized by the rolling hills and agricultural lands typical of the northern Ozarks region.
