The Florida Department of Community Affairs (DCA) was a former agency of the Florida state government. Established in 1991, the department was tasked with overseeing statewide planning, land‑use regulation, and growth‑management programs. Its core responsibilities included administering the state's Growth Management Act, coordinating regional planning efforts, and providing technical assistance to local governments on community development issues.
In the early 2000s, the agency underwent a reorganization. In 2001, the Florida Legislature enacted measures that eliminated the DCA, transferring its functions to other state entities. Key responsibilities were divided among the Department of Economic Opportunity, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the Office of Community Planning and Development within the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The dissolution was part of a broader effort to streamline state operations and reduce administrative overlap.
Following its abolition, the policies and programs formerly administered by the DCA continued under the jurisdiction of these successor agencies, maintaining Florida’s framework for growth management and community planning.
