Finn Døssing

Finn Døssing (14 August 1941 – 24 May 2019) was a Danish professional footballer who played as a forward. He is best known for his prolific goalscoring spell at Scottish club Dundee United in the 1960s.

Early Life and Club Career

Born in Copenhagen, Døssing began his football career in Denmark with Vejle Boldklub, where he made a name for himself as a talented goalscorer. His performances attracted attention from abroad, leading to a move to Scotland.

Dundee United

In December 1964, Døssing signed for Dundee United for a fee of £20,000, a significant sum at the time. He quickly became a fan favourite at Tannadice Park due to his remarkable goalscoring ability. Døssing scored on his debut against Celtic and went on to net 25 goals in 27 league appearances during the 1964–65 season. The following season, he continued his impressive form, scoring 27 goals in 34 league games. His time at Dundee United coincided with a period of growing success for the club under manager Jerry Kerr, including their first venture into European competition. Døssing was part of the United team that famously defeated Barcelona home and away in the Fairs Cup in 1966. In total, he scored 76 goals in 116 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Later Playing Career

After leaving Dundee United in 1967, Døssing moved to Belgium to play for Racing Mechelen. He later returned to Denmark, playing for Aalborg Boldspilklub (AaB) before retiring from playing.

Managerial Career

Following his playing career, Døssing transitioned into management. He coached at several Danish clubs, including the youth teams at Vejle Boldklub, and later took charge of teams such as Aarhus Fremad and Kolding IF.

Legacy

Finn Døssing is widely regarded as one of Dundee United's greatest ever players and is remembered for his crucial role in establishing the club as a formidable force in Scottish football during the 1960s. He was one of the early foreign players to make a significant impact on the Scottish game.

Death

Døssing passed away on 24 May 2019, at the age of 77. His passing was marked with tributes from Dundee United and the wider Scottish football community.
