The Finland national under-21 football team is the national representative team for Finland in international under-21 football competitions. The team is governed by the Football Association of Finland (Suomen Palloliitto) and is a member of UEFA.
The primary competition for this team is the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, held every two years. To be eligible for the team, players must be 21 years of age or younger at the start of the two-year qualifying campaign for a European Championship. Consequently, players may be up to 23 years old during the final tournament.
The team serves as a transitional stage for players moving from youth academies and junior national selections to the senior Finland national team. It is commonly referred to by the nickname "Pikkuhuuhkajat" (The Little Eagle Owls), which is a derivative of the senior team's nickname, "Huuhkajat."
A significant milestone in the team's history occurred in 2008, when Finland qualified for the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship held in Sweden. This was the first time the Finnish under-21 team reached the final tournament of the competition. During the tournament, Finland competed in a group alongside England, Germany, and Spain.
The team plays its home matches at various stadiums throughout Finland. Selection for the squad is based on the players' performances in domestic leagues, such as the Veikkausliiga, as well as in foreign professional leagues. Management and coaching staff are appointed by the Football Association of Finland to oversee player development and tactical preparation for international fixtures.
