Fineen Wycherley (born 22 November 1997) is an Irish professional rugby union player who primarily plays as a lock for United Rugby Championship club Munster. He has also represented the Ireland national team at international level.
Early Life and Youth Career
Born in Bantry, County Cork, Ireland, Wycherley began his rugby career at a young age with Bantry Bay RFC. He progressed through the Munster age-grade representative sides, showcasing early promise as a robust forward. He attended Cistercian College, Roscrea, where he played a key role in their journey to the 2015 Munster Schools Senior Cup final. Munster
Wycherley made his senior competitive debut for Munster on 1 September 2017, starting in the team's opening Pro14 (now United Rugby Championship) fixture of the 2017–18 season against Benetton. His athletic prowess, work rate, and physical presence quickly allowed him to establish himself within the squad.He signed his first senior contract with Munster in 2018, progressing from the academy to a full professional deal. He has since become a regular feature in the Munster lineup, accumulating significant appearances in both the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup. Wycherley extended his contract with Munster in 2021, securing his future with the province until at least June 2024, and again in 2023, keeping him at Thomond Park until June 2026.
Ireland
Wycherley's consistent performances for Munster earned him his first call-up to the senior Ireland squad in January 2021 ahead of the 2021 Six Nations Championship. He made his senior international debut for Ireland on 26 June 2021, coming off the bench in a dominant 71–10 victory against the United States at the Aviva Stadium. He earned his second cap later that year, featuring in an Autumn Nations Series fixture against Japan in November 2021.Playing Style
