Fernando Niño (footballer, born 1974)

Fernando Niño, full name Fernando Niño Rodríguez, is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a central defender. He is most notably recognized for his extensive career with RCD Mallorca, where he spent many seasons competing in La Liga.

Career

Niño began his professional career with Atlético Marbella. He then transferred to RCD Mallorca in 1996, quickly establishing himself as a stalwart defender for the club. During his tenure with Mallorca, he was part of a successful era, which included reaching the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final in 1999 and winning the Copa del Rey in the 2002–03 season. He made over 200 appearances for Mallorca across various competitions before departing in 2004.

Following his time at Mallorca, he had brief stints with other Spanish clubs, including CD Numancia and CA Osasuna, before concluding his professional playing career.

Personal Life

He is the father of Fernando Niño Rodríguez, who is also a professional footballer and plays as a forward, currently for Villarreal CF.
