Fermi (Turin Metro)

Fermi is an underground station serving Line 1 of the Turin Metro (Metropolitana di Torino) in Italy. It currently functions as the western terminus of the line.

Location and Naming: The station is situated in the municipality of Collegno, a town immediately west of Turin, specifically located on Via Enrico Fermi. It is named in honor of the renowned Italian physicist Enrico Fermi, who was a key figure in the development of quantum theory and nuclear physics.

History and Operations: Fermi station opened on 4 February 2006, as part of the inaugural section of Turin Metro Line 1. This initial segment connected Fermi to XVIII Dicembre station, marking the first operational phase of the Turin Metro system. As the westernmost point of the line, Fermi serves as a significant transport hub for residents of Collegno and the western metropolitan area of Turin. It provides essential connections to the city center and other parts of the network, facilitating daily commutes.
