Feldkahl is an Ortsteil (district or constituent community) of the market town of Hösbach in the district of Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, Germany. Located in the Spessart low mountain range, it is situated to the northeast of the main town of Hösbach.
Geography
Feldkahl is nestled within the western part of the Spessart natural park, characterized by a hilly landscape with a mix of forests and agricultural fields. It lies in the valley of the Kahl river's tributary, the Feldkahl stream, which gives the settlement part of its name ("Feld" meaning field, and "Kahl" referring to the river or a bare area). The elevation typically ranges from 200 to 300 meters above sea level.
History
The first documented mention of Feldkahl dates back to the 13th century. Throughout its history, Feldkahl was primarily an agricultural village. Until the administrative reforms in Bavaria in the early 1970s, Feldkahl was an independent municipality. On January 1, 1972, as part of the extensive territorial reorganization (Gebietsreform) in Bavaria, Feldkahl was incorporated into the larger market town of Hösbach, along with other smaller communities like Wenighösbach and Winzenhohl. This integration aimed to create more efficient administrative units.
Demographics
As of recent estimates, Feldk has a population of approximately 1,100 inhabitants, contributing significantly to the overall population of Hösbach. The community has maintained much of its rural character despite its proximity to the more urbanized areas of Aschaffenburg.
Infrastructure and Culture
Feldkahl benefits from its connection to Hösbach's infrastructure. While primarily residential, it retains a local identity through its community hall, sports facilities, and the local church, St. Michael. Traditional village life, including local clubs and festivals, remains an important aspect of the community's culture.
