Fair Play, Texas is an unincorporated community situated in the northeastern portion of Rusk County, Texas, United States. It is located approximately 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Henderson, the county seat, and lies along Farm to Market Road 3053.
History
The community of Fair Play was founded around 1845, making it one of the earlier settlements established in Rusk County. The name "Fair Play" is believed to have originated from a local agreement among early settlers or reflected a prevailing desire for equitable dealings, potentially concerning land claims or community relations during the nascent stages of its development.A post office was established in Fair Play in 1846, serving the area for nearly sixty years until it was discontinued in 1905, with mail service subsequently rerouted through Henderson. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Fair Play functioned as a modest agricultural service center for the surrounding farms and ranches.
