Facundo Cangiani

Facundo Cangiani (born February 13, 1996) is an Argentine professional rugby union player who primarily plays as a wing. He is known for his speed, agility, and try-scoring ability, having represented various teams in Argentine domestic and international competitions.

Early Life and Club Career

Cangiani began his rugby career at a young age, following in the footsteps of his father, Oscar "Cachavacha" Cangiani, a former Argentina national team (Los Pumas) player. He developed through the ranks of Hindú Club, one of Argentina's most successful rugby clubs, based in Don Torcuato, Buenos Aires. With Hindú, he competed in the Torneo de la URBA (Buenos Aires Rugby Union Tournament) and the Nacional de Clubes, showcasing his talent as a prolific try-scorer.

Professional and International Career

Cangiani's strong performances at the club level led to his inclusion in higher-level representative teams:

  • Jaguares XV: He played for Jaguares XV, the development and feeder team for the Super Rugby Jaguares, competing in various regional tournaments such as the Currie Cup First Division in South Africa and the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR).
  • Jaguares: Cangiani earned a call-up to the Jaguares, Argentina's Super Rugby franchise, for various seasons. His time with the Jaguares provided him with experience against top international talent in the southern hemisphere's premier club competition.
  • Argentina XV: He has also represented Argentina XV, the second national team of Argentina, participating in tournaments like the Americas Rugby Championship and other international fixtures. This platform allowed him to further develop his skills and compete on the international stage outside of the full Pumas test team.

Playing Style

Cangiani is characterized by his pace, evasive running, and a keen eye for the try-line. As a wing, he is often a key finisher in his teams' attacking patterns, known for his ability to break tackles and exploit defensive gaps.

Personal Life

Facundo Cangiani maintains a strong connection to Hindú Club and the Argentine rugby community. His family's legacy in Argentine rugby, particularly through his father Oscar, is a significant part of his identity within the sport.
