FFE Transportation

FFE Transportation Services, Inc., commonly known as Frozen Food Express (FFE), is an American logistics and trucking company specializing in the transportation of temperature-sensitive goods. Headquartered in Lancaster, Texas, the company is one of the largest asset-based temperature-controlled carriers in North America. It provides a variety of shipping services, including Less-Than-Truckload (LTL), Full Truckload (TL), and dedicated transportation solutions for perishable items such as food products and pharmaceuticals.

History

The company was founded in 1946 by Cy Weller as Frozen Food Express. Over the subsequent decades, it expanded its operations to become a primary provider of refrigerated transport across the continental United States. In 2013, FFE Transportation Services was acquired by a subsidiary of the Duff Brothers Capital Group, which also owns KLLM Transport Services. This acquisition integrated FFE into one of the largest temperature-controlled logistics networks in the United States.

Operations

FFE Transportation operates a fleet of refrigerated trailers and power units designed to maintain specific temperature ranges, including frozen, chilled, and ambient settings. The company is particularly noted for its LTL network, which allows smaller shipments of temperature-controlled products to be consolidated and transported efficiently. This service model is supported by a network of service centers and temperature-controlled warehouses strategically located throughout the United States.

Services

The core business segments of FFE Transportation include:

  • Temperature-Controlled LTL: Consolidation of multiple small shipments into a single trailer to reduce costs for shippers of perishable goods.
  • Temperature-Controlled Truckload: Dedicated transport for large-volume shipments requiring a full trailer.
  • Logistics and Warehousing: Storage and distribution services for products that require climate-controlled environments to maintain integrity and safety standards.
  • Dedicated Fleets: Providing specialized equipment and drivers for specific customer requirements.

The company adheres to federal regulations set by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), as well as food safety standards mandated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the transport of human and animal food.
