FC Kaliakra Kavarna

FC Kaliakra Kavarna (Bulgarian: ФК Калиакра Каварна) is a Bulgarian professional football club based in Kavarna, Dobrich Province, which currently competes in the Bulgarian Third League, the third tier of Bulgarian football. The club is named after Cape Kaliakra, a prominent landmark on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast near Kavarna.

History FC Kaliakra Kavarna was founded in 1922 (some sources cite 1923) as a sports club, with the football section becoming its most prominent division. For most of its history, the club competed in the lower divisions of Bulgarian football, primarily the regional and second tiers.

A significant period in the club's history began in the early 2000s when they consistently challenged for promotion to the top flight. In the 2007–08 season, Kaliakra achieved their most notable Bulgarian Cup run, reaching the semi-finals where they were eliminated by Cherno More Varna after a penalty shootout.

The club's biggest success came at the end of the 2009–10 season when they secured promotion to the A PFG (now First League) for the first time in their history. Kaliakra spent two consecutive seasons in the top tier:

  • 2010–11 season: Finished 14th, narrowly avoiding relegation.
  • 2011–12 season: Finished 15th and were relegated back to the B PFG (Second League).

Following their relegation from the top flight, the club experienced financial difficulties and a subsequent decline. They continued to compete in the second and third tiers, sometimes facing issues that led to administrative relegations or re-foundings under slightly different names but maintaining the Kaliakra identity. In recent years, the club has stabilized in the Third League, aiming to regain its former standing.

Stadium FC Kaliakra Kavarna plays its home matches at the Kavarna Stadium, located in Kavarna. The stadium has a capacity of approximately 5,000 spectators and features a natural grass pitch.

Club Colours and Badge The traditional club colours of FC Kaliakra Kavarna are blue and white. The club badge typically incorporates elements referencing the sea and Cape Kaliakra, often featuring a ship or a stylized wave, reflecting its coastal location.
