FC Astana

FC Astana (Kazakh: «Астана» футбол клубы, romanized: «Astana» fýtbol klýby) is a professional football club based in Astana, Kazakhstan. The club was founded in 2009 and quickly established itself as one of the most successful teams in Kazakh football, achieving numerous domestic titles and making significant strides in European competitions.

History

FC Astana was founded on 6 May 2009, as Lokomotiv Astana, through the merger of Megasport and Alma-Ata. The club quickly rose to prominence, securing its first major trophy, the Kazakhstan Cup, in 2010. In 2011, the club was renamed FC Astana. Its ascent continued with a dominant period in the Kazakhstan Premier League, starting from 2014.

Stadium

The club plays its home matches at the Astana Arena, a modern multi-purpose stadium located in Astana. Opened in 2009, the stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 30,000 and features a retractable roof.
