Félix Suárez (born March 6, 1961) is a Mexican poet, essayist, and editor. He was born in Ixtlahuaca, State of Mexico.
Education and career
Suárez studied Spanish Literature at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM) from 1981 to 1986 and completed a diploma in Book Publishing at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in 1995. For more than a decade, he served as publications coordinator for the Instituto Mexiquense de Cultura (IMC) and was the founding director of the literary magazine Castálida. He also founded and edited the literary magazine La Grapa.
Literary work
Suárez's poetry is characterized by lexical conciseness and a radical focus on its themes, which it approaches in a raw and unsettling manner. His work frequently addresses erotic and amorous subjects, featuring both the lyrical voice and figures from ancient Greece and Rome. A recurring underlying theme is the awareness of the passage of time and the transience of life, with influences from both pre-Hispanic poetry and biblical wisdom.
His work has appeared in numerous literary supplements and magazines, including Arena, Blanco Móvil, El Financiero, La Jornada Semanal, Revista de la Universidad de México, Siempre!, and Tierra Adentro, among others. His poems have been included in over fifty collective anthologies, such as the Antología general de la poesía mexicana (Océano, 2014) and the Antología esencial de la poesía mexicana. Cien poetas de los siglos XV al XXI (Océano, 2017).
