Eye Opener was a syndicated American morning news program that aired from 2011 to 2018. It was produced by Tribune Broadcasting and later, after the acquisition, by Nexstar Media Group. The program was notable for its fast-paced format, incorporating a mix of news headlines, lifestyle segments, and entertainment features. It aimed to provide a quick and engaging alternative to traditional morning news shows.
The show originated on Tribune's CW-affiliated stations and was gradually expanded to other markets, including those affiliated with other networks. "Eye Opener" typically aired in the 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM local time slots, serving as a lead-in to network morning programs. Its on-air talent often consisted of local news personalities from the stations on which it aired, though some versions featured dedicated "Eye Opener" anchors.
The program's segments covered a wide range of topics, including national and international news, weather forecasts, traffic reports, celebrity gossip, health and fitness tips, and cooking demonstrations. The tone was generally lighter and more upbeat than traditional news broadcasts.
In 2018, Nexstar Media Group acquired Tribune Media. Following the acquisition, Nexstar announced the cancellation of "Eye Opener," and the program ceased production later that year. The timeslots formerly occupied by "Eye Opener" were generally filled with expanded local news coverage or other syndicated programming.
