Ewing Miles Brown (December 1921 – May 27, 2019), known affectionately by his nickname "Lucky" Brown, was an American film producer, director, editor, and actor whose career in Hollywood spanned more than nine decades.
Early Life and Acting Career
Brown began his career as a child actor in Hollywood. His first role was a small part in the Our Gang comedy series in the 1920s. He continued taking bit parts in various films throughout the following decades. His father, Dr. Howard Crosswell Brown, had connections in the film industry that helped facilitate his early entry into acting.
Production and Editing Work
In the early 1950s, Brown moved into the production side of the film industry. He served as head editor at Emperor Films and was later recruited by Robert L. Lippert's studio to take responsibility for production. Not content working for others, he eventually founded his own production company, Movie Tech Studio.
Notable Filmography
As an actor, Brown appeared in films such as Walk the Dark Street (1956), The Astounding She-Monster (1957), Giant from the Unknown (1958), The Fantom (1961), and The Stoneman (2002), among others. As a producer or associate producer, his credits include Hell's Chosen Few (1968), Blood of Dracula's Castle (1969), Horror of the Blood Monsters (1970), A Whale of a Tale (1977), The Stoneman (2002), Dismembered (2003), and The Ruining (2004).
Later Life and Death
Brown remained active in the film industry well into his nineties, mentoring younger filmmakers. He died from respiratory failure on May 27, 2019, at the age of 97.
