The species was formally described by Brazilian entomologists U.R. Martins and M.H.M. Galileo in 2005. The original description appears in the taxonomic work “Novas espécies de Acanthoderini (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) do Brasil” published in Revista Brasileira de Entomologia.
Diagnostic features
The specific epithet maculata (Latin for “spotted”) refers to the characteristic pattern of distinct pale or dark maculations on the elytra and pronotum that differentiate this species from congeners. Detailed morphological characters include:
- Body length ranging from 12–16 mm (adult specimens).
- Antennae filiform, extending beyond the elytral apex in males.
- Pronotum with a pair of lateral tubercles and irregular punctation.
- Elytral surface bearing a series of irregular, rounded spots contrasting with the surrounding integument.

Distribution and habitat
Eupromerella maculata is known from the neotropical region of Brazil, with confirmed records from the state of Pará in the Amazon Basin. Specimens have been collected in lowland tropical rainforest environments, typically associated with dead or decaying hardwoods where larvae develop within woody tissue.
Biology and ecology
Like other members of the subfamily Lamiinae, the larvae are xylophagous, feeding on the internal tissues of dead trees. Adults are nocturnal and are attracted to light sources, a behavior commonly exploited in field surveys using light traps.
Conservation status
The species has not been evaluated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). No specific threats have been documented, but habitat loss due to deforestation in the Amazon may affect local populations.
