In 1985, the Australian arachnologist Barbara York Main transferred the species to the genus Euoplos during a taxonomic revision of the family Idiopidae. The specific epithet hoggi is an eponym, likely honoring the arachnologist H.R. Hogg, who contributed significantly to the study of Australian spiders during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
